Have you ever heard about Eugène Deslaw? Is he French? And about Yevhen Slabchenko? In fact, this is one and the same person. And, yes, he is from Ukraine, Kyiv region. A Ukrainian who gained recognition for his films. At one time, foreign filmmakers called him «the first-class director», «one of the best screenwriters in Europe» and «the most outstanding figure in modern cinematography».
Slabchenko/Deslaw moved to the West as a diplomat of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, but by fate he remained there. He worked in France, Spain and other countries, but always emphasized his Ukrainian origin. He was also active in the public life of the Ukrainian community, in particular, developing the scout movement («Plast»).
Therefore, the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, Lviv Polytechnic National University, invites you to an online meeting «Eugène Deslaw – filmmaker and diplomat: Ukrainian handwriting on the world map». It will take place on December 8, 2021 on the occasion of the 123rd anniversary of his birth. We start at 16:00 (Kyiv time) on the Zoom platform.
At the event you will be able to learn more about the forgotten artist and diplomat in Ukraine, who did not forget about his Motherland until the end of his life.
The facets of the Master’s talent will be revealed by Iryna Matiash, an expert-researcher of his work, the Chair of the Board of the Scientific Society for the History of Diplomacy and International Relations (Kyiv, Ukraine).

- Maryna Hrymych, Ukrainian writer, Doctor of Sciences, founder of Duliby publishing house (Beirut, Lebanon);
- Yulia Zmerzla, Executive Director of the Center for Ukrainian Culture and Education (Winnipeg, Canada).
In the discussion on the artist-diplomat will also take part:
