Educational module «EU Global Responsible Leadership: Climate Change, Environmental Protection and Humanitarian Aid»

The aim of introducing a new interactive interdisciplinary course in European studies is to study approaches to understanding the global leadership of the European Union and to interpret this role of the Community through the prism of three key dimensions, namely: the promotion of climate values, environmental protection and humanitarian aid. The proposed module provides a study of the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian war on the evolution of the subjectivity of the European Union in modern global politics, projecting the power of the EU on the situation in Ukraine with regard to the provision of superpowerful humanitarian aid, the introduction of a special mechanism for the protection of Ukrainian refugees, the initiation of the EUAM military mission, plans, programs, EU initiatives regarding the post-war green recovery of Ukraine and EU support potential for Kyiv within the framework of the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance. Also, the proposed module will allow students to develop competence both in the field of EU foreign policy and practical skills in projecting the power of the EU in today's changing world. This will not only strengthen the understanding of the leadership of the EU in global politics, but also contribute to the process of involving the public, representatives of scientific circles, and students in internal transformations in the state in accordance with European standards and norms. Graduates will apply such knowledge in their professional activities, better understand the subjectivity of the EU, its role as a responsible global leader, mainly in the field of climate and humanitarian diplomacy, environmental protection, and popularize European values.
Learning outcomes:
- the ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the essence of the legal nature of the EU;
- the ability to identify key approaches regarding the subjectivity of the EU in global politics, its geopolitical parameters, history, opportunities and ability to be a global leader;
- the ability to characterize the principles of the EU, which are used by the Community as a global actor, namely: a single voice in the international arena, responsibility, partnership and involvement;
- nderstanding the importance of EU policies and their connection with environmental protection, climate change and humanitarian donation;
- the ability to determine the key dimensions of the EU's role in global politics, such as: humanitarian diplomacy as an important foreign policy vector of the Union's activity, Brussels' leadership in promoting climate values in global politics, climate/environmental diplomacy as an element of the Union's "soft power" in external communication;
- understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of projecting the power/role of the EU in Ukraine in the conditions of Russia's armed aggression, the ability to distinguish and analyze the results and prospects of strengthening the EU's involvement in post-war reconstruction plans, the provision of humanitarian aid and the financing of environmental protection programs;
- the ability to freely operate with the acquired facts and concepts, to distinguish and analyze the problems of the EU's global leadership in modern realities, as well as to determine the prospects for strengthening the role of the Union in today's changing world, through the prism of three dimensions: climate change, environmental protection and humanitarian aid;
- to systematize, classify the studied material; logically, consistently and critically highlight the problems of the module; to justify relevance, set a goal and define tasks; independently draw conclusions and suggestions on the topic of the module;
- to form analytical abilities and the ability to work in a team.
