On September 20, 2022, a public online lecture on «Monitoring of the EU Association Agreement. What gives Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership?» was held by Ivan Nahorniak, Candidate of Political Sciences, adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine.
During the lecture, the speaker focused on the importance of the governmental information and analytical online system «Pulse of the Agreement», developed to monitor the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement in various areas, the peculiarities of filling out the questionnaire by the Ukrainian side to the European Commission, the positions of the EU member states regarding granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership, potential scenarios of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and key restrictions for this, as well as the preparatory stage for negotiations on the issue of our country’s accession to the EU.
Ivan Nahorniak’s speech aroused great interest. More than a hundred participants, including students of various majors, teaching staff, postgraduate students, participants of the EUSTS project from the Department of Social Communication and Information Activities, the Department of Political Science and International Relations, and the Department of Electromechatronics and Computerized Electromechanical Systems, took part in the event. Well-known international scientists joined the event, in particular, Professor Teresa Astramowicz-Leyk, the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, who is currently undergoing her internship at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and is a specialist in human rights, EU regional policy and local self-government.
The participants were mostly interested in issues related to the state of decentralization reform in Ukraine, predictions regarding Ukraine’s acquisition of EU membership and the main limitations of this process, the impact of digitalization of the provision of administrative services on Ukraine’s European integration, etc.
The event was held within the framework of the project «European studies for students of technical specialties at Lviv Polytechnic National University» (EUSTS), which is implemented with the support of the EU Erasmus+ program, Jean Monnet Actions. It is held within a series of public lectures by different speakers.
