80 years ago, on November 1, 1944, Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytskyi passed away. On this occasion, a ceremony in memory of the righteous Metropolitan Andrei was held at St George’s Cathedral in Lviv. Also there were announced and awarded the laureates of the Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytskyi Award, which was established in the Lviv region in 2023.
The laureates of this year’s Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytskyi Award in the nomination «Art History» for the joint publication «Petro Andrusiv (1906–1981): Artistic Heritage, Publications, Archival and Reference Materials» were Andrii Yatsiv, Master of History, Deputy Director of the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, Lviv Polytechnic National University, and Roman Yatsiv, Doctor of History, Candidate of Art History, Professor at Lviv National Academy of Arts.
The Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytskyi Prize is awarded for significant contributions to the development of philanthropy, entrepreneurship, statehood, culture, as well as for the creation of scientific works of great scientific and practical value and belonging to the areas that were in the Metropolitan’s field of attention: theology, art history (in the context of Ukrainian identity), local history, medicine (in the context of overcoming the negative consequences of the war), pedagogy, and ecology.
We would also like to remind you that one of the first two winners of the Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytskyi Award in 2023 was Ihor Kalynets, a prominent poet and prose writer, a member of the of Ukrainian Sixtiers, political prisoner, Shevchenko Prize laureate and long-time employee of the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, Lviv Polytechnic.
