Almost two years ago ITRE opened a new specialty, thus Lviv Polytechnic joined the training of Avionics specialists. Last week, within the framework of Leopolis for future – the internship program for students and postgraduates in Poland – Boeing representatives delivered a lecture at this Institute.
Aviation + Electronics
All electronic systems, designed for aircrafts, artificial satellites and manned aircrafts, form the concept of avionics. Mostly 80% of the total cost of a modern aircraft is for its electronic equipment, which is designed for aircraft flight control system and weapons control – on the military aircraft. A precondition for the opening of the Avionics specialty in Lviv Polytechnic was the need to train aircraft equipment specialists for the western region. ITRE Director Ivan Prudyus says that the new specialty naturally fitted into the range of those which already existed at the Institute – there was a sufficient knowledge base and technical capabilities.
The State Higher Vocational School in Chełm (Poland), including its Institute of Technical Sciences and Aviation, is very interested in cooperation with Polytechnic. In April, the Poles are coming to Lviv, and in the summer they are ready to take our students for internship. There was a meeting with the Director of the International Civil Aviation Institute of ICAO aimed to implement high standards in training so that Avionics graduates of Lviv Polytechnic would be able to obtain international certificates. Polytechnicians will have new laboratories and an opportunity to acquire the necessary skills at Lviv enterprises, in particular, the private company MARKET-MATS, which was created by ITRE graduates.
Boeing invites
The Boeing office in Gdansk is one of the best in Eastern Europe. Thousands of workers create this system of global service, which is constantly developing and demonstrating significant growth rates on the air market. Service systems, their optimization and programming are products manufactured by the Polish side. This was stated in the report by Rafał Stepnowski, the president of Boeing’s Board of Directors.
Mateusz Dopka, software engineer at Boeing, demonstrated what challenges the company faces and what it is working on in his presentation «The Future of Aviation in the World of Digital Innovations».
This was the first visit of Boeing’s representatives to Lviv Polytechnic, however, they hope, not the last. The desire for cooperation led to the invitation of our students to have their internship in Poland. Therefore, in the next academic year, third year students of Avionics will have summer internship in Gdansk, in order to subsequently implement the experience gained in Ukraine.
