Business opportunities in the Western region and attempts to bring them closer to EU standards were discussed at the University

On October 3, 2024, the team of «European Studies for Technical Specialties at Lviv Polytechnic National University» (EUSTS) held a regional business webinar «Approximation to EU Standards and Opportunities for Ukrainian Business: Experience of the Western Region» at Lviv Polytechnic.

65 people attended the event, including representatives of business, clusters, business associations, government and academia, as well as lecturers from the Department of Political Science and International Relations, the Institute of the Humanities and Social Sciences, and 56 students majoring in the International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies.

During the business webinar, the participants discussed topical issues of European integration aspirations of the Western region, peculiarities of negotiating with international partners, specifics of implementing projects involving foreign investment in the development of domestic business, basics of business diplomacy in wartime, and potential models of using European experience for the economic development of territorial communities in the Western region of Ukraine. The intense two-hour discussion of practitioners allowed us to summarize the results, voice the problems, and outline the prospects for the development of the Western region on the way to EU standards in various sectors of the economy and business.

Professor Yaryna Turchyn, EUSTS Project Manager, delivered a welcome speech to the participants of the business webinar, outlining the opportunities provided to Ukraine by European partners to implement EU standards, socio-economic development of the regions and human potential of the Western region of Ukraine.

Among the keynote speakers at the event there were representatives of the EBA Western Ukrainian Office: Mariana Lutsyshyn, Head of EBA Western Ukraine, Oksana Kokots, Communications Coordinator, and Alf. They told about the daily work of the Association, which was founded in 1999 with the support of the European Commission in Ukraine. Today, the European Business Association is one of the largest business communities operating in the Ukrainian market, actively improving Ukraine’s investment climate and promoting cooperation between Ukraine and the EU. More than 1000 companies are members of the Association.

The webinar was moderated by Olena Lukachuk, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Lviv Polytechnic, and a researcher at the University’s R&D Department.

Associate Professors Oleksandr Markovets and Nataliia Vovk, Department of Social Communications and Information Activity, Lidiia Kasha, Department of Electromechatronics and Computerized Electromechanical Systems, Oleh Tsebenko, Olha Ivasechko and Iryna Sukhorolska, Department of Political Science and International Relations, also joined the organization of the event.

The business webinar «Approximation to EU Standards and Opportunities for Ukrainian Business: Experience of the Western Region» was held within the framework of the project «European Studies for Technical Specialties at Lviv Polytechnic National University» (EUSTS) with the support of the EU Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Program.
