Traditionally, a visit of the American colleague Prof. Marshall Botkin (Ocean County College, New Jersey, USA) envisages a series of lectures. This time, Prof. Marshall Botkin delivered a lecture on the topic “Icons of music and history (How popular music represents political issues and historical facts of the times)” to students of the “Social Work”, “Sociology”, and “International Relations” specialties. In the course of the lecture, the audience had an opportunity to learn more about the history of the USA, including the phenomenon of slavery, discrimination, youth movements, and the struggle for human rights during various historical periods of the American society development. It was interesting to listen to a few songs, which represented facts and problems of the American society in particular times. The lecture by Prof. Marshall Botkin caused the audience’s interest. The students and instructors appeared to be active listeners and asked clarifying questions in the end of the lecture.
It is noteworthy here that the visit of Prof. Marshall Botkin was permeated with positive emotions not only from the lecture, but also from the meeting with Dr. Roman Korzh, Vice-Rector for Research, Education and Social Development. It is with pride and gratitude that Dr. Roman Korzh presented Prof. Marshall Botkin with the Certificate of Honor awarded to him by Lviv Polytechnic National University for his outstanding personal contribution to the long-term and successful Ukrainian-American cooperation.
In the nearest future, we are expecting another visit of Prof. Marshall Botkin with new interesting and topical lectures, which will be useful for representatives of the above listed specialties as well as for those coming from different other professional areas.
