On November 4–8, 2024, a delegation from Lviv Polytechnic National University visited Northumbria University (UK, Newcastle) as part of an education grant supported by the British Council in Ukraine.
The delegation consisted of Liliia Zhuk, Vice-Rector for Education and Strategic Development, Ivan Opirskyi Head of the Department of Information Security, Oksana Peleshchyshyn, Head of the Center of Information Support, and Oksana Hordiichuk, Leading Specialist of the Marketing Department.
The purpose of the visit was to study the experience of the British university in the use of information services and systems in the professional activities of academic staff and administrators, personnel of service departments, as well as the impact of digitalisation on the university’s transition to an innovative culture of distributed leadership. The experience gained is important for the implementation of the project on the digital transformation of the document management system at Lviv Polytechnic, which is aimed at developing academic leadership, creating a new management culture, and will become a tool for engaging the academic community.
During the visit to Northumbria University, the Polytechnicians met with Professor Andy Long, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Northumbria University, Professor John Woodward, Pro Vice-Chancellor International, Rob Carthy, Director of the International Development Service, Dr Alex Hope, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Newcastle Business School, Professor Monika Foster, Head of Newcastle Business School, Dr Biju Issac, Director of the Academic Centre in Cyber Security Research, as well as representatives of Northumbria University involved in various processes in the educational and scientific fields that cover the use of information technology. During the visit, they discussed possible ways of further cooperation between Lviv Polytechnic and Northumbria University. There was also organised a tour for Polytechnicians to the learning and research laboratories. The education grant manager from Northumbria University is Dr Yevhen Baranchenko, Leadership and Human Resource Management Department.
The education grant to visit to Northumbria University was the next step for Lviv Polytechnic in the implementation of the Leaders of University Transformation for Ukraine’s Reinvention (LUTUR) programme, which was initiated in 2023 by the British Council in Ukraine in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Fund of the President of Ukraine for Support of Education, Science and Sports.
