On October 28, 2023, the 2nd stage of the ICPC International Collegiate Programming Contest was held at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. 50 teams, which represented different secondary and higher education institutions of Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Volyn and Zakarpattia regions, took part in the ICPC Contest.
The International Collegiate Programming Contest is an algorithmic programming contest for college students. Teams of three, representing their university, work to solve the most real-world problems, fostering collaboration, creativity, innovation, and the ability to perform under pressure. Through training and competition, teams challenge each other to raise the bar on the possible. Quite simply, it is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious programming contest in the world.
The ICPC Contest traditionally lasts 5 hours, during which a team must fulfill more than a dozen tasks. The difficulty of the competition, in particular, lies in the fact that the team of three participants has only one computer at their disposal. Therefore, the purpose of the Contest is not only to test the level of knowledge, skills and logical thinking, but also the ability to establish teamwork and organize the process in the best possible way.
The inspiring work on problem solving could not be stopped even by an air alarm: the teams continued their search for the right solutions in the shelter of Lviv University, where they lively discussed new creative ideas.
According to the results of the intense competition, the winners of the 2nd stage of the ICPC International Collegiate Programming Contest are:
- Stallions team of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv which took first place – 9 solved tasks;
- Dejavu team of Lviv Polytechnic National University and Machata team of Uzhhorod National University shared 2nd place, solving 7 tasks each;
- TroubleMakers team of Uzhhorod National University (7 solved tasks), Placeholder team of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (6 solved tasks) and Ipz_2023_2 team of Lutsk National Technical University (6 solved tasks) shared the third place.
Victory in one of the regional stages of the Contest leads to an invitation to the next one – the All-Ukrainian Contest, where teams compete for a place in the world finals.
