From now on there is one more university innovation laboratory in Lviv Polytechnic. The first Ukrainian Embedded Starter Kit – a system for training students to design robots and smart devices – was presented by IT company GlobalLogic.
The Embedded Starter Kit can solve the problem of a shortage of modern material and technical basis for students of IT specialties. Due to this, future engineers will be able to create real projects and learn to work in a team.
– We are always striving to provide students with the necessary conditions and equipment to make their knowledge and skills relevant and needed at the market. Due to the Embedded Starter Kit, young professionals will be able to properly understand the embedded systems, as well as get practical experience working on similar projects, said Acting Rector of Lviv Polytechnic Yurii Bobalo at the opening of the laboratory.
The Embedded Starter Kit is complemented with sensors, screen, communication interfaces, modern controller and other components needed to develop embedded systems. Due to this, the Embedded Starter Kit can receive data about the surrounding world and interact with it. This will enable future professionals to create different equipment, for example, automatic watering can for flowers, a robotic hand or a sensor based on the Internet of Things technologies, etc. The development of the training system lasted about 6 months, the manufacture of the finished product will cost $ 100. GlobalLogic partners among higher education institutions will receive the Embedded Starter Kit as a gift for organizing joint training courses.
– We have foreseen that student has all the necessary components to experiment in C / Embedded field. Companies strongly feel the difference between the education level and the development of IT sphere that is why we are particularly interested in such training systems. And for students it’s an opportunity to expand their worldview and gain the knowledge that will be needed to participate in future commercial projects, said Denys Balatsko, Vice President of Engineering and the leader of Global Logic office in Lviv.
Vice-Rector for Educational and Pedagogical Work Dmytro Fedasiuk noted that this laboratory was designed as a general university lab, that is, students from different Departments and even different IT branches which are in Lviv Polytechnic can study here. And these are, at least, four Institutes where Computer Technology is taught.
