This year the third VEZHA International Festival of Architecture and Arts will take place in Lviv from July 1 to 4. It will be called «Form of [IN] dependence» and will be dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence. The grand opening of the festival will take place on July 1 - the All-Ukrainian Day of Architecture.
The main organizer of the festival is the Lviv Union of Architects of Ukraine, and the co-organizers are the National Union of Architects of Ukraine, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Lviv College of Construction, Architecture and Design, Lviv Academy of Arts, City Museum, Municipal Art Center, Ukrainian Catholic University, French Institute of Ukraine and other art institutions of Lviv and Lviv region. The event is supported by Lviv Regional State Administration and Lviv City Council.
– This year the festival program is very varied. It covers the whole city and locations outside it. Most of the events within the festival will take place at the Gunpowder Tower, Center for Architecture, Design and Urban Planning. Also there will be workshops, lectures, exhibitions and workshops at Lviv Polytechnic, Academy of Arts, Andrei Sheptytsky Museum at the Church of St. Clement Sheptytsky, as well as architectural tours. At the same time, artists will work on their installations in Svirzh, said Bohdan Hoi, an architect, member of the Regional Union of Architects and co-organizer of the festival, Associate Professor at the Department of Architectural Environment Design, the Institute of Architecture and Design, Lviv Polytechnic National University.
The Gunpowder Tower, Center for Architecture, Design and Urban Planning, organizes a presentation of a film-study on post-Soviet architecture «Entrance through the balcony», a multimedia exhibition project «Architecture of Independence» and an exhibition by Martin Duplantier (Paris) PRIX AMO, filming of the TV show-discussion «Architect of Independence», as well as a discussion of the new architectural transformations of ancient Lviv «City & Heritage». In cooperation with the Ukrainian Catholic University, a scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the death of Ukrainian architect Vasyl Nahirnyi will be held. The festival participants will reflect on the place of modern Ukrainian architects in the world. Lviv residents and guests of the city are also invited to sports and architecture events. The festive end of the Festival will take place in the Svirzh Castle.
The festival program also includes an exhibition of student projects at Lviv Polytechnic.
