At the invitation of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Economics, Russell Pittman, Director of Economic Research in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice visited Lviv Polytechnic National University.
At University he conducted a series of lectures on the following topics:
- economic issues that arise during the reformation of natural monopolies;
- assessment of access to infrastructural networks of natural monopolies of different sectors of the economy;
- the debate on railways restructuring, in particular in Ukraine;
- a detailed discussion of electricity restructuring, in particular in Ukraine.
The staff of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Economics and students of the Institute of Administration and Postgraduate Education and the Institute of Economics and Management of Lviv Polytechnic have gained invaluable experience in communicating on the practical implementation of the reformation of monopolies and the implementation of competition in the railway industry, power engineering, water supply, etc. Also Russell Pittman met the employees of the Lviv Regional Territorial Office of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine and the representatives of subjects of natural monopolies in the Lviv region in the field of power engineering and railway industry.
