On March 20, 2023, a public lecture on the current topic «Transformation of EU communications as a result of Russia’s war against Ukraine» was conducted online by Nataliia Pipchenko, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor at the Department of International Information, the Institute of International Relations, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. At the lecture they:
- discussed the projects of the European Union, aimed at overcoming the spread of disinformation in the European information space;
- presented a study of European institutions regarding the impact of disinformation on the European community;
- characterized the changes in EU communication policy in the context of the Russian war against Ukraine.
In addition, attention was paid to the joint programs of the EU and Ukraine in the field of combating cyber and hybrid threats in conditions of war, and the importance of strengthening cooperation in overcoming the interference of the Russian state in information, including foreign policy, as well as strengthening the sustainability of Ukraine’s digital transformation.
Nataliia Pipchenko’s speech aroused considerable interest. More than a hundred participants, including students of various specialties, teachers, graduate students, participants of the EUSTS project from the Department of Social Communication and Information Activities, Department of Political Science and International Relations, Department of Electromechatronics and Computerized Electromechanical Systems, as well as teachers of other institutions of higher education attended the event.
The attendees were mostly interested in the question of whether Ukraine succeeds in countering the false information that Russia provides in the information space, what additional measures should be implemented to reduce false information about our state, whether there are certain Ukrainian channels for broadcasting information within the EU, such as Russia has, whether the Ukrainian fight against disinformation works in Asia, whether the influence of Russian propaganda has decreased precisely in the opinion of the Ukrainian population in the East of Ukraine during the war, whether Ukraine plans to broadcast information about the war in the countries of Latin America in the future, how is the information work of UA Together evaluated, etc.
The event was held within the framework of the project «European studies for technical specialties at Lviv Polytechnic National University (EUSTS), which is implemented with the support of the EU Erasmus+ program, Jean Monnet Actions.
