The best Bachelor’s paper in Social Orientation has been chosen in the Institute of Architecture. The family of Anatolii Shtanko, who is the hero of the modern Russian-Ukrainian war and for many years was a lecturer of the IARCH, established the award bearing his name to encourage young people to create not only business but social projects as well.
– Anatolii Shtanko is a model of heroism. When the threat came, he took the weapon and went to defend our Homeland. After the first wounds and contusions he did not stay home, but returned to the front. He was a good architect, poet and song writer. We can learn a lot from him, including his fearlessness, love and faith in the future. The founders of the competition are hero’s son Andrii and his wife Valentyna, – said the director of the IARCH, Professor Bohdan Cherkes, at the awarding ceremony.
In general, fifty Bachelor’s papers took part in the competition. The winner was Yuliia Mohyla, who is currently studying for her Master’s degree. The student has prepared a project of the rehabilitation center for children with cerebral palsy. She said that, taking foreign centers as an example, the main focus laid on the convenience and modernity of such a complex.
– We must remember that the architect creates not only commercial, but comfortable environment as well. The winners will receive the award and a symbolic monetary prize, – said the architect and initiator of the award Andrii Shtanko.
Oksana Kashuba, a research supervisor, a lecturer of the Department of Architectural Design, knows how large and serious the research paper of the winner is. She emphasized that community building projects are much larger and more complicated than dwelling house ones. The uniqueness of the complex, created by Yuliia Mohyla, is that the project required the knowledge of the characteristics of people with disabilities. In general, the supervisor said that she was pleasantly surprised to see young people’s rising interest in social projects.
