Lviv Polytechnic hosted the University stage of the 24th Petro Yatsyk International Ukrainian Language Competition and the 14th Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literature Competition for Pupils and Students. Let us remind you that this year, significantly more students volunteered to participate in these competitions than in previous years. The event took place under the slogan "You don't know. You don’t understand. You don't respect!" (author Yuliia Pietsukh) written on a special twenty-year-old poster.
Among the philologists who Iryna Farion, Professor at the Department of Ukrainian Language, head of the competition jury, calls the inspiration, heart and soul of our University, the victory was won by SOLOMIIA-MARIIA MYTLOVYCH. The second place was taken by KHRYSTYNA FEDORIV, who, in addition to her excellent performance of competitive tasks, has another noteworthy philological merit - a dictionary of the language of war, which she compiled and illustrated on her own. VITALINA KUZYK took third place.
Among the non-philologists, VALERIIA MIESHKOVA has first place, EVELINA SOKOLENKO - second. The third place is shared by two prize-winners who scored the same number of points - SOLOMIIA MAKSYMLIUK and KATERYNA PANKIV.
Participants of the Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literature Competition for Pupils and Students wrote works on one of the proposed or on their own topic. However, the majority chose the current and relevant theme "Peace is created by war" proposed by the jury. The author of this statement is the ancient Roman historian Cornelius Nepos.
ARSEN ONYSCHAK, a first-year student of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Transport, has won this competition. The second place is taken by OLESIA DANKIV, who studies at the Department of Applied Linguistics, and third place - journalism student OLEKSANDRA MALYSHEVA.
Iryna Farion emphasized that while evaluating the works, not only the author's reflections on the chosen topic were taken into account, but also the analysis of a historical fact, episode, metaphor, and image - something that full-fledged works cannot do without.
Special appreciation for their participation is expressed to those who do not have a Ukrainian language course in their curriculum anymore, so they did not hope to get some additional points, instead they were guided by a sense of responsibility, service, rank, and position.
All winners of both competitions will receive cash prizes. During the award ceremony, they were presented with diplomas and books by Ivan Korsak, Mykhailo Khudash, Yulian Vassyian, Mykhailo Kosach, Dmytro Dontsov, Yaroslav Radevych-Vynnytskyi, Mykola Stsiborskyi, Iryna Farion and Taras Shevchenko's "Kobzar", published according to the 1928 spelling.
