Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University (Vasyl’ Stus DonNU) was founded in 1937. Now Vasyl’ Stus DonNU is a powerful scientific and higher educational establishment of the Eastern Ukraine with the IV grade of accreditation. It is a classical university that provides training for specialists in natural-scientific, humanitarian and economic fields of knowledge. The university has 8 faculties, 1 institute and 3 branches of the university located in Khmelnytskii, Mariupol. It offers 28 educational Bachelor’s Degree programmes and 27 educational Master’s degree programmes. PhD Study Programmes were opened for 13 specialities.

According to the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine № 1084 dated 30.09.2014, DonNU has been forced to relocate to Vinnytsia, due to the military conflict in Eastern Ukraine and the occupation of the university by the terrorist organisation. After the relocation, the number of students studying at university is falling, now there are 4812 students.

Vasyl’ Stus DonNU in rankings: “Top 200 Ukraine”, Scopus. In April 2019 Vasyl’ Stus DonNU was placed at 32th position among the 200 UKR universities (9th position among the classical universities) in Scopus ranking. The University holds leading positions among the classical universities and in the overall rankings in Ukraine despite its very difficult situation after the relocation. 

Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University was included in the GUIDE Association (Global Universities In Distance Education).

Vasyl’ Stus DonNU is a member of European University Association, the Eurasian Organisation and AIMOS, an active participant of numerous European scientific, research and educational programmes (Erasmus Mundus, Erasmus +, TEMPUS, British Council, the Sixth and Seventh Framework EU (Horizon) and International Fund “Renaissance”). In 2004, it was amongst the first Ukrainian universities to sign the Universitatum Magna Charta.
