Marketing and Logistics Department History

Today, the Department of Marketing and Logistics stands as a modern academic unit with a professional and dedicated team that educates and nurtures students, unlocking their talents for success in promising careers.

Over the years, the department has grown to a staff of 50 academic and teaching professionals (13 of whom work part-time), significantly increasing the number of graduates, research areas, and fields of interest.

At the undergraduate level, students specialize in Marketing and Logistics (with Logistics offered as a specialization within the Management program). At the graduate level, students become experts in Marketing, Internet Marketing, and Logistics. The number of students in the department grows annually as these fields are highly in demand in the job market.

The department's academic team includes 6 Doctors of Economic Sciences, professors, associate professors, and assistants. The main goal of the Department of Marketing and Logistics is to impart knowledge to future managers and marketers, teaching them to see opportunities where others see obstacles, think creatively, and respond to the real needs of the business environment while adhering to ethical and moral principles.

In training students, the department utilizes modern educational technologies, including lectures with presentations and video support, analytical and case study exercises, role-playing and computer-based simulation games, webinars, and on-site practical classes and workshops at leading companies.

How did education and research develop in the department?

The Department of Marketing and Logistics was officially named in 2003, though its roots trace back to the Department of Industrial Economics and Production Organization. In 1964, the Department of Economics and Organization of the Chemical Industry and Energy was established, which was later renamed in 1996 to the Department of Economics of Energy and Chemical Enterprises and Marketing. This department initially focused on teaching subjects related to the organization and management of enterprises in the energy and chemical industries. The first graduates, economists specializing in energy and chemical industry management, completed their studies in 1968. Since then, the department has trained over 2,500 professionals.

In 1994, the department began preparing a new generation of economists – marketers – to meet the needs of the market economy. Responding promptly to the dynamic development of the labor market in Ukraine, the department started training specialists in Logistics in 2000.

The department also participates in the training of undergraduates, specialists, and master’s degree students in technical fields at the newly established institutes within the structure of the National University "Lviv Polytechnic," such as the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, the Institute of Energy and Control Systems, the Institute of Distance Learning, and the Institute of Postgraduate Education.
