Data Protection Day was held for the third time at Lviv Polytechnic National University. This event is part of the Erasmus+ project, the Jean Monnet module «Protection of personal data in the EU» (No. 611692-EPP-1–2019–1-UA-EPPJMO-MODULE). This year, the World Data Protection Day 2022 brought together about 200 participants from all over Ukraine – Kharkiv, Sumy, Kyiv, Lviv and Odesa, as well as speakers from leading IT companies in Lviv and Spain. All this was made possible by the online format of the event, which was caused by quarantine measures.
Leading lawyers talked about how to protect personal data of citizens, what rights they have under the European Regulation on General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and what responsibilities it imposes on business. Data protection specialists and software architects told how to properly configure companies’ business processes to meet GDPR requirements.
Also during the round table all participants had the opportunity to discuss the current state of personal data protection in Ukraine and the world, as well as to offer their own vision of prospects for implementing the requirements of the European regulation on personal data protection in Ukraine. Prospects for personal data protection in accordance with Ukrainian legislation were also discussed in detail.
Students also took an active part in Data Protection Day 2022. In particular, many students of the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies, who have already faced the requirements and limitations of the GDPR in their work in IT companies, enthusiastically joined the discussions and asked questions to the speakers.
