The British Times Higher Education has published the annual ranking of the best universities in the world – World University Rankings by Subject 2026. These subject rankings allow us to compare universities around the world in 11 main fields of knowledge and encompass 148 specific disciplines.
The rankings are compiled using the same comprehensive methodology as the THE World University Rankings; however, the weighting of indicators differs and is specifically adjusted for each field. The methodology covers 18 criteria under five core pillars:
- teaching (reputation and learning environment);
- research environment (reputation and research income);
- research quality (citations and research impact);
- international outlook (number of international students, staff and co-authorship);
- industry (income from industry partnerships and patents).
The peculiarity of the ranking is the significant influence of reputation indicators. To a large extent, the final score is determined by how the higher education institution was assessed by participants in an international survey of scientists and faculty.
This year, Lviv Polytechnic National University entered the global rankings in five fields, securing three second-place positions, as well as fourth and fifth places among Ukrainian universities.
