In January 2026, Serhiy Shevchenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Environmental Examination of Goods at Lviv Polytechnic National University, successfully completed the international certification course “ESG Essentials for Sustainable Business”, organized by Duke University (USA) — one of the world’s leading institutions in business education and sustainable development.

The course focused on the core principles of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance), their role in addressing global economic, social, and environmental challenges, and the growing impact of ESG approaches on modern business models, investment decisions, and corporate governance. Throughout the course, participants developed a practical understanding of ESG terminology, stakeholder engagement mechanisms, and approaches to integrating sustainability principles into organizational activities.

The knowledge and certification obtained are of significant importance for the further development of the Department’s educational and research activities, particularly in updating academic courses related to entrepreneurship, sustainable development, and business management in times of crisis and transformation. The course materials are planned to be incorporated into the teaching process, student project supervision, as well as the Department’s research and grant-related activities.

Completion of this course also opens additional opportunities for strengthening international academic cooperation, integrating global ESG best practices into the Ukrainian educational environment, and fostering among students a contemporary understanding of responsible business. This is especially relevant in the context of Ukraine’s post-war recovery and ongoing European integration processes.
