On December 23, the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, Lviv Polytechnic National University, with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Bulgaria and the Scientific Society of History of Diplomacy and International Relations held an online event entitled «The European way of Ukrainian. Mykhailo Parashchuk» within the framework of the DiasPORAznaty project. The Institute invited the community to discover the greatness of Mykhailo Parashchuk (1878 – 1963), a world-famous and underestimated Ukrainian sculptor, architect, diplomat, public activist and political prisoner.
The meeting was moderated by Andrii Yatsiv, Deputy Director of IECDR. He emphasized on Parashchuk’s outstanding contribution to the culture of Europe through the prism of Ukrainian identity, which he always stressed: «His path laid through many European cities and regions – Ternopil, Warsaw, Munich, Vienna, Lviv, Moscow, Kyiv, Thalerhof concentration camp, Reveli, Rastatt, Sofia…He realized his talent in sculpture, architecture, student activism, politics and diplomacy. He is the author of a number of outstanding artistic monuments: Adam Mickiewicz monument in Lviv, the decoration of various buildings in Bulgaria, Ukraine, Hungary and France, dozens of unique sculpture portraits, as well as decorative and monumental sculpture in various art genres».
At the beginning of the event a welcome speech was given by Lviv Polytechnic prof. Nataliya Chukhray, Doctor of Economics, Vice-Rector for Education and International Relations of the University. She, among other things, pointed out that Mr. Parashchuk was a student of Lviv Polytechnic, and studied under the famous professor Antoni Popiel.
