Since the beginning of the hostile Russian attack on Ukraine, Lviv Polytechnic has made efforts to preserve all the necessary conditions and resources for the continuous operation of the University.
Already on the first day of the war, on February 24, the Headquarters for Operational Response was established to ensure the viability of the University. During these two hot weeks, the Rector held dozens of meetings with Vice-Rectors, Directors of Institutes, and volunteers to develop the diverse work of the University.
A number of important issues were discussed during the leadership meetings. Particular attention was paid to the discussion of providing training for migrant students who are currently in Lviv. In particular, several dozen live in university dormitories.
Rector Yurii Bobalo also stressed to the Directors of the Institutes the importance of supporting all employees of their structural units and daily communication with each employee.
During the meeting, the head of the University paid special attention to the volunteer activities of the Polytechnic, and in particular the activities of students, which developed in different directions.
Every day, in the Student Volunteer Headquarters they weaves 600 square meters of camouflage net for our troops in the hottest places. Since the beginning of the war, almost 8,000 square meters have been woven.
Every day 3–4 buses with food, hygiene products and things are delivered by volunteers of the Center for the Collection of Humanitarian Aid to Internally Displaced Persons and the Army, formed on the basis of Lviv Polytechnic. The Volunteer Center also works without days off – a total of 12 aid cars have already been sent, with the issues which were collected by volunteers and purchased for over UAH 60,000.
Our ITRE scientists are repairing the equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Chemists have started the process of making gel bandages. It is planned to receive 500 bandages daily. 31 anti-tank hedgehogs were welded in the IMET for territorial defense. We have also prepared 72 pallets for gel bandages.
1500 places for IDPs have been formed in the academic buildings of our University. More than half a thousand people also live in various dormitories of Polytechnic.
At the end of the meeting, Nadiia Liubomudrova, Head of the Department of Personnel Training and Development, gave a motivational speech on the peculiarities of the psychology of war.
