On 27 February 2025, Lviv Polytechnic National University hosted an online conference «Sustainable Development of the EU – Best Practices for Ukraine» as part of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet project, the Department of European Studies for Technical Students of Lviv Polytechnic (EUSTS).
The event was opened by Zoriana Kunch, Director of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Teresa Astramowicz-Leyk, Professor at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Honorary Professor and member of the Supervisory Board of the NULP, Halyna Lutsyshyn, Head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations, and Yaryna Turchyn, Professor of the Department of Political Science and International Relations, EUSTS Project Manager, who stressed the importance of implementing European practices in Ukraine in the context of European integration.
The conference was focused on the following key areas: 1. Climate and environmental sustainability as a tool for achieving sustainable development; 2. Digital Single Market: indicators for Ukraine; 3. Sustainable development and energy in the EU: challenges to achieving global goals; 4. The role of the EU in the regulation of the current system of international relations.
In total, more than 70 people took part in the conference, and more than 60 students, postgraduates, researchers and lecturers made presentations. Despite the extremely difficult conditions dictated by the war, the event was attended by representatives from different cities of Ukraine – Kharkiv, Odesa, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Khmelnytskyi, Lviv, Kamianets-Podilskyi, Vinnytsia – representing a number of educational and research institutions. In particular, the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (Poland), Stepan Gzhytskyi National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnologies Lviv, Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, Odesa National Economics University, Odesа Polytechnic National University, Western Scientific Centre of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Leonid Yuzkov Khmelnytskyi University of Management and Law, Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, State Biotechnological University, Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ukrainian National Forestry University, and Lviv Polytechnic National University.
During the panel discussions, the participants discussed the formation of a single digital market, challenges for sustainable development and energy on the way to achieving the Global Goals, climate and environmental sustainability, as well as the role of the EU in shaping the international system, supporting Ukraine's European integration and its post-war reconstruction, taking into account European approaches.
