Lviv held the 19th Summer Universiade of Ukraine within the framework of the celebration of the International University Sports Day. It ended on October 3, 2024. The traditional awarding of the winners and prize-winners took place at the Universiade’s closing ceremony. This year, representatives of 117 higher education institutions took part in 16 sports.
According to the results of the Universiade, Lviv Polytechnic is ranked second among higher education institutions of the third category. Professor Volodymyr Kraiovskyi, Vice-Rector for Training and Production, received the second place award for the university team.
Viktor Koriahin, Head of the Department of Physical Education at Lviv Polytechnic, shared his impressions of the Universiade and its results:
– This year Lviv Polytechnic was represented by 15 teams in various sports. The students have been preparing for the competition for a year, attending regular training sessions after classes three to five times a week at the Department of Physical Education. The teams that represented the University at the competition were made up of students of different years of study who have the first or second category in a particular sport or are candidates for master of sports or already are masters of sports. Every year, the composition of the teams is updated. Students who have played sports in children’s and youth sports schools come to us and want to continue developing in this direction. Their love for sports unites them and motivates them to participate in such competitions.
It is worth noting that Lviv is hosting the winners of the All-Ukrainian Summer Universiade for the first time. The event was organized by the Committee on Physical Education and Sports of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, its Lviv Regional Branch, the Student Sports Union of Ukraine, and teams from two universities in Lviv region.
