The rapid development of robotic equipment in Ukraine is gaining momentum. A clear example of this was this year’s exhibition «Arms and Security – 2021», where many new robots were presented not only by our defense sector, but by the private as well. Moreover, research in the field of mobile robotics continues also in universities.
In particular, Roman Zinko, a mechanical engineer, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Automotive Engineering, Lviv Polytechnic National University, told us in detail about promising developments from Lviv engineers, electricians, mechanics and programmers.
According to him, work on this topic began in 2014 with the beginning of Russian aggression. In fact, all the work had to be created from scratch.
– The approach from the point of view of the organization and the development concept is of great importance. Of course, it is difficult to compete with world giants and other professionals, but the achievements of Lviv Polytechnic National University are quite significant, – said Roman Zinko. – Now inventors are working on the possibility of using a group of robots, the so-called battle swarms. We are also working on improving some elements of robotic combat vehicles. Unlike countries that are not at war, Ukraine has a unique opportunity to test complexes and platforms in combat.
According to the engineer, the basis of the project is the creation of a military combat unit, which was recommended to the Armed Forces by representatives of technical intelligence. Accordingly, a number of vehicles to conduct specific combat missions have already been designed and manufactured.
