On January 14, 2019, Paweł Adamowicz, the mayor of Gdansk, was tragically killed. This sincere and bright man left in our hearts only warm memories and great gratitude for his great contribution to establishing and deepening the cooperation between Poland and Ukraine in the scientific and educational sphere.
Paweł Adamowicz was the initiator of the Leopolis for Future program, which allows students of Lviv higher education institutions, in particular Lviv Polytechnic, to obtain the necessary international professional experience in Poland. He actively participated in organizing their professional training during internship at well-known Polish companies, institutions and directly in the city hall of Gdansk.
A few years ago we had a happy opportunity to become better acquainted with Paweł Adamowicz when he paid a visit to Lviv Polytechnic National University and other education institutions of the city of Lion. And it was great to know that he was the true sympathizer of Ukraine, a reliable partner and a kind friend who made every effort to strengthen our international and human relations.
With bitterness in our hearts, we perceived the tragic news of the death of this sensitive and indifferent man, a true Polish patriot and patriot of his native city Gdansk, whose mayor he was for over the past 20 years.
The Council of Lviv Oblast Rectors, Rector’s Council, University Academic Board and the entire academic community of Lviv Polytechnic National University are deeply saddened by the tragic death of the Mayor of the city of Gdansk Paweł Adamowicz and express our sincere condolences to the family and relatives, as well as to the entire community of the city grieving the immeasurable loss they suffered.
