In order to study life, scientific heritage, priestly and creative activity of Markiyan Shashkevych – a prominent Ukrainian scientist, public activist and poet – the Department of Psychology, Pedagogics and Social Management, the Institute of Jurisprudence, Psychology and Innovative Education, Lviv Polytechnic, and All-Ukrainian Ridna Shkola Society at Lviv Polytechnic and Vuzlove Secondary School of I-III degrees, held the International scientific and practical conference «Markiyan Shashkevych – priest, poet, prophet, public activist, tireless fighter for the Ukrainian language» on November 4–5, 2021.
Vasyl Kremen, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, President of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, addressed the participants of the conference with a welcome speech.
Leading scientists, teachers and public activists of Ukraine and international participants took part in the conference. The Department of Education and Science, Lviv Regional State Administration, was represented by Iryna Sysliuk, Head of the Department of Preschool and General Secondary Education, and Oryslava Khomyk, Specialist of the Department of Preschool and General Secondary Education. The Department of Education, Culture, Religion and Tourism, Chervonohrad District State Administration, was represented by the head of the Department Ruslana Antoniuk, who also addressed the conference participants with a welcome speech. In addition, the conference participants were greeted by Stepan Kokhanchuk, Chairman of Radekhiv City Council.
The singing band of the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary performed the spiritual songs «Everything Has Calmed Down» by I. Fedoriv and «Thankful Love» by Fr. V. Mendrun and M. Datsko. The students of Vuzlove School recited poetic works by Markiyan Shashkevych and other authors who wrote about him.
The participants visited the museum-manor and the memorial complex, where Shashkevych’s parish in the village of Nestanychi stood, as well as the church where Father Markiyan served in 1838–1841.
The monograph «Markiyan Shashkevych – an outstanding personality of the Ukrainian state» (author P. Sikorsky) was presented at the conference.
