In 2024, Psychology became the most popular study programme among this year’s entrants. What has caused such a wave of interest in this field of study and why do young people choose this particular field for their future?
Modern society is undergoing global changes, which requires new approaches to understanding the human psyche and interpersonal relationships. The growing number of stressful situations, psychological challenges, and the aggravation of mental health problems in the face of constant uncertainty have led to an increase in demand for qualified psychologists. Young people are increasingly choosing this profession, seeking not only to help others but also to better understand themselves and their emotions.
– From the very beginning, I was interested in psychology at the pedagogical college. It was one of the most interesting and, at the same time, not so easy subjects. Later, I realised that I would like to do this, but with an older audience. In general, I have always felt that working with people and helping them is what I like. I believe that this is the most popular major nowadays because people see the need for this profession today and want to learn something that will help them in their personal lives, says Viktoria Kukhar, this year’s entrant.
Another important factor is the broad employment opportunities that psychological education opens up, notes Iryna Sniadanko, Head of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Psychology:
– The most important thing is that Psychology gives you the opportunity to realise yourself in a wide range of professions, as a person with this speciality can work as a teacher, journalist, and manager. Nowadays, many people are also applying for a Master’s degree in Psychology because it is very prestigious for foreign partners. Today, Psychology is a general basic education that opens up many different activities. However, we shouldn’t forget that it requires a lot of personal investment, new knowledge and constant development.
Thus, Psychology is appealing to young people not only because of the opportunities for personal and professional growth, but also because of its wide applicability in various spheres of life. Although future psychologists may not have a clear idea of which direction to choose yet, the process of learning and self-improvement will help them find their vocation in this important profession.
