Under the conditions of a significant reduction in the financing of higher education institutions of Ukraine in 2022 under the program 2201040 «Scientific and technical activities of higher education institutions and scientific institutions», the universities tried to increase their participation in grant activities at the expense of the general fund.
Using information from open sources (data from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the National Research Foundation of Ukraine), the Center of International Projects «EurOsvita» monitored the participation of higher education institutions of Ukraine in the main competitions of scientific projects (international and domestic) in 2022.
Universities participated in four types of research competitions:
- Joint competitions of research works within the framework of bilateral intergovernmental programs of scientific and technical cooperation;
- Projects of fundamental scientific research, applied scientific research and scientific and technical (experimental) developments of young scientists;
- Projects financed by the European Union’s External Assistance under the European Union’s Framework Program for Scientific Research and Innovation «Horizon 2020»;
- Competition of scientific and technical (experimental) developments and scientific and technical products commissioned by the state.
According to the results of the rankings, the leaders are:
- National Technical University of Ukraine «Ihor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute» – 1st place;
- Sumy State University – 2nd place;
- Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv – 3rd place;
- Lviv Polytechnic National University – 4th place;
- Ivan Franko National University of Lviv – 5th place.
