On November 22, the VIII International Joint Youth Science Forum «Litteris et Artibus», as well as the ХІІІ International Conference «Young Scientists Towards the Challenges of Modern Technology» have started in Lviv Polytechnic. Oleksandr Ivashchuk, Science Forum Secretary, Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering of Lviv Polytechnic, tells us about Forum that lasts these three days.
The Forum features nine conferences of different directions – from chemical to economic. This year our event is special because we have united it with a very similar conference of our colleagues and regular active participants from Warsaw University of Technology, whose motto is: Young Scientists – Changes in Science and Technology. For several years we have discussed the format, and now we finally unite these two events. For us it means – to move to a different level: to be not only conference participants, but also to broaden our experience, in particular the way of organizing and conducting such events.
This year we decided to accept articles for the conference on the platform of the new Open Review Hub project, which was launched by our Scientific Society. It is intended to provide an open and transparent review of scientific materials of various professional directions in accordance with the principles of Open Peer Review and Open Science in general.
This time there will be over 130 reports, and this is a pretty good indicator. Who will not be able to come, can join a Skype for the conference. Among the participants there is President of Eurodoc Gareth O’Neill, and our always active Polish colleagues – from Warsaw University of Technology and Wroclaw University of Science and Technology. Also there will be scientists from universities in Turkey. And we are looking forward to the usual activity of young scientists of Lviv Polytechnic.
The main events will be held today at StartUp School – registration, solemn opening and plenary discussion on Perspectives and Obstacles of Implementing Open Science and Open Peer Review in Eastern Europe, as what in Europe is already normal and familiar, it is innovative for us. After lunch there are Forum poster and oral sessions, where the scientific commissions will chose the winners.
On Saturday we will organize an international round table where we will discuss the results of the conference as well as future possible integration and cooperation.
