The solemn ceremony began with a moment of silence for the fallen heroes, because due to their sacrifice, we can live and continue to work for the good of our country.
― The tradition of awarding the title «Honorary Professor of Lviv Polytechnic» dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. So far, 43 persons have been awarded it. With this title, the academic community of Lviv Polytechnic honours people who have made special contributions to our University in various fields. Today we honour the achievements of Yevhen Pistun and Yurii Bubes, emphasized at the beginning of the event Rector of Lviv Polytechnic Yurii Bobalo.
Yevhen Pistun: «The time of challenges creates many opportunities, but not everyone is ready to take advantage of them»
The scientific work of Yevhen Pistun, Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Head of the Department of Automation and Computer-Integrated Technologies, was presented by Andrii Lozynskyi, Director of the Institute of Power Engineering and Control Systems, Lviv Polytechnic.
― For many in this hall, mentioning only the name of the nominee would be enough. Yevhen Pistun created the history of Lviv Polytechnic and himself entered the history of our University. He is one of the developers of the statute of Lviv Polytechnic in 1990, thanks to which the Polytechnic team gained the opportunity to elect a rector. In the position of Vice-Rector, he actively contributed to the development of innovative and entrepreneurial activities of Lviv Polytechnic. Due to his inexhaustible energy and initiative, and the ability to gather ambitious people around him, Yevhen Pistun managed to achieve extraordinary results, in particular, he is the author of five interstate standards, five state standards, 151 author’s certificates for inventions and patents, including those in the USA, Great Britain , Sweden, France, Germany, Poland, and Japan, noted Andrii Lozynskyi.
In his thank you speech, Yevhen Pistun briefly told about the largest projects he implemented at Lviv Polytechnic, noting in particular:
– This honour is extremely important to me. Fate decreed that all my life I have been working at Lviv Polytechnic. Times were different, there were many different projects and achievements. We had to overcome serious challenges. At the beginning of the 1990s – at a rather difficult time, when our country was on the path to independence – it was important for us to democratize Lviv Polytechnic. Another large-scale project implemented in the early 2000s was the accounting of gas pumped through Ukraine. New opportunities appear during challenges, but not everyone is ready to take advantage of them. Today the whole country is fighting, and we believe in our victory!
Yurii Bubes: «Even in the most difficult times, we did and are doing everything to develop science»
Roman Korzh, Vice-Rector for Education and Social Development, Lviv Polytechnic, presented the professional achievements of Yurii Bubes, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Honored Economist of Ukraine, and President of the Private Joint Stock Company «Concern-Electron».
― «Ask not what the country can do for you, but ask what you can do for the country», this quote from John F. Kennedy’s inaugural speech describes the life path of the person who is being honored today with an honorary title. Yurii Bubes made a significant contribution to the diversification and restructuring of the business activities of the Concern Electron, having worked his way up from the head of management to the president of Concern-Electron PJSC. Yurii Bubes leades a branch of the Department of Semiconductor Electronics, where our University academics undergo internships and run courses on managing the properties of semiconductor materials. Polytechnic and enterprise researchers work on joint European projects. PJSC «Concern-Electron» and Lviv Polytechnic are forming mixed teams, which promote the mutual exchange of scientific and technical information and, what is especially important, the approval and implementation of applied developments, emphasized Roman Korzh.
After the awarding of the honorary title, Yurii Bubes expressed his sincere gratitude to the staff of Lviv Polytechnic for such a high assessment of his work.
― «Concern-Electron» and Lviv Polytechnic are united by long-standing cooperation. We set ourselves the goal of working for the benefit of Ukraine, investing in the creation of our own innovative industries and applied science. We are proud to have preserved it for a hundred years of our activity. Even in the most difficult times, we did and continue to do everything to ensure that science develops, produces real results and contributes to the development of our economy, said in his speech Yurii Bubes.
