This year, the awarding ceremony of the winners of «Lviv Polytechnic Benefactor of the Year 2023» was complemented by a professional panel discussion «Lviv Polytechnic: capitalization of history». The conversation concerned the transformation of historical buildings, in particular educational ones, the transformation of which achieved great success. The impetus for the discussion of this topic was the idea of revitalization of one of the most interesting premises of Lviv Polytechnic – Machine Hall. Here we want to create a special space in which the history of the development of engineering and mechanics will be combined with interactive events that will inspire young students to create new projects and bring the most fantastic ideas to life.
The panel discussion was moderated by Yulian Chaplinskyi, a graduate of Lviv Polytechnic, architect, urban planner, head of the Lviv City Architecture Department in 2015–2019, Deputy Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development in 2019–2020. Yuliia Bohdanova, theoretician of architecture, historian, Pavlo Hudimov, art critic, museum curator and Ivan Ostapovych, the head of the Lviv Organ Hall, participated in the event.
Each of the participants of the discussion shared their own experience of studying the transformation of historical spaces into modern ones filled with interesting ideas. Yuliia Bohdanova focused attention on the uniqueness of the Lviv Polytechnic campus, in particular the Machine Hall.
Pavlo Hudimov spoke about his foreign and Ukrainian experience, explaining how a museum can be profitable and attractive for both artists and visitors.
Ivan Ostapovych, having the experience of reviving the Organ Hall, which, by the way, is part of the Lviv Polytechnic campus, told how to turn a loss-making institution into a living institution, and it is not only about concerts, but also about archiving and popularizing Ukrainian music.
After a rather lively discussion, all participants of the event had the opportunity to see with their own eyes how interesting and unique the space of the Machine Hall is, and to continue the exchange of ideas about filling this space with new meanings.
