This year on May 1, the Department of Chemical Engineering marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Hryhorii Akselrud, the Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Processes and Equipment for Chemical Production in 1967–1987.
Professor Akselrud devoted his research to the mass transfer processes with a solid phase participation. His researches included dissolution processes, solid phase extraction, adsorption, diffusion-controlled chemical reactions of solid phase with a liquid reagent for industry, in particular for the production of fertilizers, products of organic synthesis, wastewater treatment, aluminum production, etc.
For twenty years Professor headed the Department and created a good team of scholars. He published more than 500 scientific articles, methodological developments, lecture notes and 8 monographs, some of which were translated into Polish, Hungarian, English and Bulgarian. Under his supervision more than 60 candidate and 10 doctoral dissertations were defended.
The last monograph Mass Transfer in the Solid-Liquid System (Ukrainian authors – H. Akselrud, Ya. Humnytskyi and Polish – R. Petrus and V. Pianktkowski) was published in Polish. At that time it won the second place among the scientific publications in Poland. This proves the high scientific level of the monograph and the merit of Professor Akselrud, who led this international team of authors.
