From recently, every day Lviv has been receiving tens of thousands of IDPs from other regions of Ukraine affected by the war, and many of these people are in a state of acute stress. Given the situation in the country, on the initiative of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Psychology, Lviv Polytechnic National University, there was established a Center for free psychological assistance to the population, which offers psychological assistance to stop panic and anxiety.
The Center is managed by Iryna Sniadanko, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Psychology, Head of the Lviv Branch of the Ukrainian Association of Organizational Psychologists and Labour Psychologists. Every day, teacher and student volunteers of the Department provide counseling services to internally displaced persons and local residents.
The Center has an air raid shelter. The Center is usually visited by people with symptoms of acute stress, panic attacks, phantom siren syndrome and various symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. Frequent requests concern negative mental states, including anxiety, depression, aggression, irritability, conflict, loss of meaning in life, which are especially acute during the war. At the same time, many clients of the Center seek self-realization in new conditions, including looking for social contacts, work, the opportunity to volunteer, as well as opportunities for better adaptation of children.
In general, the Center provides a wide range of psychological services to the population, and promotes socio-psychological adaptation of people during war.
