On March 1, 2019, Lviv Polytechnic National University hosted the solemn ceremony of Doctor Honoris Causa diploma awarding to a well-known American scientist of Ukrainian origin, engineer, head of the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, USA), director of international projects at the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Institute for Water Resources Professor Eugene Zenon Stakhiv. The representatives of University Academic Board and all those interested in the achievements of the scientist attended the event.
Before the ceremony, Professor Eugene Zenon Stakhiv delivered a lecture on Integrated Water Resources Management and Its Role in Reducing Poverty for the University students.
Professor Zinovii Blikharskyi, Director of the Institute of Building and Environmental Engineering of Lviv Polytechnic, gave a speech about Eugene Zenon Stakhiv, emphasizing, in particular, significant achievements of the scientist as well as his devotion to his native land.
– It is a great honor for me to be awarded with the title of Dr. Honoris Causa of Lviv Polytechnic. It is equivalent to international awards. Especially impressive is the awareness that I am in the University, where many Ukrainian heroes studied. I always felt close to the Ukrainian land where I was born, so this day is very important for me, said the scientist in his solemn speech.
Speaking about changes in Ukraine, the scientist emphasized the development of our universities, which take as a model the best European universities.
Professor Eugene Zenon Stakhiv is the fiftieth Doctor Honoris Causa of Lviv Polytechnic.
