The Call for individual scholarships for students of the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies, Lviv Polytechnic National University, is now closed. Scholarships from the Clarina Charitable Foundation and the Social Story Center, USA, were awarded to Daria Mundurs, Sofia Kobrin, Vitalii Pikhotskyi, Sofiia Zaiats, Sofiia Kardash, and Anastasia Pehytiak. The competition committee, while determining the winners, took into account a number of criteria, including social status, academic performance, effectiveness of scientific activities, and participation in public activities and the volunteer movement.

The main goal of the project is to support students in the conditions of a full-scale war, as well as to stimulate them to acquire new knowledge and practical skills.

– Individual scholarships allocated by partners from the USA are the embodiment of our joint mission of investing in youth based on the principles of empathy, support and interaction. In the face of full-scale war, this becomes especially important, as it demonstrates an alternative path and helps shape the future today. The process of selecting candidates for scholarships was based on several criteria. Academic achievements, scientific and volunteer activities of students were taken into account. At the same time, the sponsors focused their attention on the social aspect, giving preference to those who directly experienced the consequences of the war or faced other life difficulties and challenges.

Six students were chosen from among numerous applicants who, thanks to their persistence, continue to acquire knowledge and are interested in the development of Ukraine. Inspired by the success of this project, the Clarina Charitable Foundation and the Social Story Center decided to continue their support. They plan to allocate funds for the next cycle of scholarships. So we not only give students quality knowledge and help them learn modern innovative skills, but also contribute to their social protection. We are sure that supporting youth now will give positive results in the future, contributing to the formation of an educated and pragmatic nation with high academic and emotional intelligence, emphasized Olesia Saban, project coordinator, academic at the Department of Applied Linguistics.

The newly-minted winner, Vitalii Pikhotskyi, talked about studying his dream major and shared his impressions of the Call:

– The Department of Artificial Intelligence Systems provides students with many opportunities, including cooperation with various companies, mentoring support, and various workshops. Some subjects are taught directly by company employees who willingly share their many years of experience and knowledge. The first year and a half of study was difficult, but I do not regret choosing Lviv Polytechnic.

Obtaining an individual scholarship from the Clarina Charitable Foundation and the Social Story Center, USA, is a great achievement. It is good that the competition commission takes into account not only the academic performance of students, but also their social status, participation in public activities, in particular in the volunteering. Everyone had a chance to present himself. In the conditions of war, student youth need support more than ever. I believe that such initiatives stimulate students to learn and conquer new heights.
