In late May - early June 2022, the delegation of Lviv Polytechnic National University (Vice-Rector for Education and International Relations, Professor Nataliya Chukhray, Director of the Institute of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor Yaryna Turchyn, Professor at the IEM Department of Foreign Trade and Customs Oksana Yurynets and Associate Professor at the IHSS Department of Political Science and International Relations Olha Ivasechko) paid a working visit to the city of Olsztyn, Poland.
On May 31, a solemn ceremony took place, during which Yaryna Turchyn was awarded the Order of Merit to the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. The Order was presented by Marshal of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship Gustaw Marek Brzezin and the Chairman of the Sejm of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship Bernadeta Hordejuk.
Among the invited guests there were Paweł Wielgosz, Vice-Rector of the University of Warmia and Mazury, Joanna Ostrouch-Kaminska, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Arkadiusz Żukowski, Director of the Institute of Political Science, and Stepan Migus, Chairman of the Olsztyn Association of Ukrainians in Poland. The participants of the event expressed their desire to expand cooperation in the field of science, education and culture with the support of local and regional authorities of Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and Lviv region.
The next day, Yaryna Turchyn was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, which is one of the lading institutions of higher education in Poland.
During the award ceremony, the nominee's achievements in scientific, educational and cultural activities to deepen Ukrainian-Polish cooperation, as well as cooperation between Lviv Polytechnic National University and the University of Warmia and Mazury were presented. Together, researchers from both educational institutions have implemented numerous international grants, conferences, publications in prestigious journals, mutual internships of teaching staff and postgraduate students, joint training programs, and most importantly - Ukrainian-Polish forums, which are a bridge between scientists, youth and public activists of Ukraine and Poland.
– These are the results of the work of like-minded people. This is proof that my modest work to strengthen Ukrainian-Polish cooperation is not in vain, said Yaryna Turchyn during her speech.
The nominee expressed special gratitude for facilitating cooperation to Professor Teresa Astramowicz-Leyk, the University of Warmia and Mazury, Arkadiusz Żukowski, Director of the Institute of Political Science, Joanna Ostrouch-Kaminska, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Sławomir Przybyliński, former Dean of the UWM, as well as to the Board of Rectors with Jerzy Przyborowski. Words of gratitude were addressed to the Rector's Office of Lviv Polytechnic National University and personally to the Rector Yuriy Bobalo, who provide comprehensive support in the development of such cooperation.
Vice-Rector Nataliya Chukhray made a welcome speech and presented special letters on behalf of the Rector of Lviv Polytechnic to the Rector of the University of Warmia and Mazury Jerzy Przyborowski. Congratulations to Professor Jaryna Turczyn were expressed by Rectors of Polish universities, representatives of state and local authorities, in particular: Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki, Minister of Education and Science of Poland Przemyslaw Czarnek, Voivode of Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship Artur Chojecki, as well as President of Olsztyn Piotr Grzymowicz. Marcin Kuchczynski spoke on behalf of local governments, and Robert Szewczyk spoke on behalf of Olsztyn city authorities. The participants of the outstanding event and the leadership of the universities declared their mutual desire to continue cooperation for the development of science, education and culture, which unite the Ukrainian and Polish peoples.
The award ceremony was filled with the spirit of support from the academic community of the University of Warmia and Mazury to Ukraine in its struggle against the Russian invader. Rector Jerzy Przyborowski’s speech in Ukrainian aroused special emotions as a sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people. Today, UWM students and faculty are joining efforts to bring the Ukrainian victory closer, providing humanitarian support to Ukrainians and publicly condemning Russian aggression.
It is noteworthy that the long-term cooperation between Lviv Polytechnic and the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn is actively supported by the Sejm of the Warmia and Masury Voivodeship and the Marshal's Government of the Voivodeship. These are numerous internships for teaching staff and postgraduate students, Ukrainian-Polish scientific forums, which take place alternately in Lviv and Olsztyn, and unite researchers, students from different universities of both countries, prominent politicians, diplomats, representatives of central, local and regional authorities, as well as civil society institutions. By the way, one of the members of the delegation, Olha Ivasechko, was at the University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM) at the time of the visit under the NAWA PROM academic exchange program.
