The purpose of the five-day School was to get senior schoolchildren interested in their native land and Wikipedia, as well as develop their basic skills in working with Wikipedia and other wiki projects, in particular Wikivoyage and Wikiquote.
The participants of the School were senior schoolchildren of the Lviv Higher Vocational School of Computer Technologies and Construction, Sukhovolia Lyceum, Mariyka Pidhiryanka Lyceum No. 74 of the Lviv City Council, Lapaivka Lyceum named after the Hero of Ukraine Heorhii Kirpa, and Lviv Secondary School No. 30.
The school lectures were given by Mariana Senkiv, Myroslava Haba, Nataliia Dnistrianska, Halyna Ilnytska-Hykavchuk, and Andrii Terebukh, the faculty of the Department of Tourism, Viacheslav Chornovil Institute of Sustainable Development, Lviv Polytechnic, as well as experienced Wikipedians – Pavlo Sokhan, Vira Motorko, and Serhii Lypko.
The lecturers managed to acquaint the participants with the basic principles of editing and creating articles on local history topics in Wikipedia, as well as with its popular sister projects – Wikimandra and Wikiquotes. Participants also uploaded their own photos of their homeland to the Wikipedia repository. In total, the participants created 15 new articles and improved more than a hundred existing ones in the Wikipedia repository.
School participants took part in competitions and quizzes. The winners received souvenirs from the public organization «Wikimedia Ukraine». The six most active participants who contributed the most to wiki projects received certificates of successful participation in the Summer School, as well as souvenirs.
The senior schoolchildren highly appreciated the School, noting that they would continue to write about their native region in wiki projects in the future.
