In the outbreak of a worldwide pandemic, Tech StartUp School, Lviv Polytechnic National University, joins the initiative #допоможилікарям (help doctors) and starts printing protection medical facial screens at Tech Lablnno. These products are reusable and can be disinfected.
– We create adapters for devices of artificial ventilation of the lungs, with the help of which 2 patients can be connected to one device at the same time. The only condition is that two persons must have the same lung volumes (that is, you can connect two young or two older people). The capacity of the ventilator is enough for 2 people. The adapters are being actively tested in Kyiv and for a long time have been used in European and American practice,» said Natalia Ivankova, a representative of the Business Innovation Center at Lviv Polytechnic. As for protection screens, we also make them. Plastic frames are printed on a 3D printer and protective screens are cut with a laser. These masks are reusable and can be disinfected. They are much more comfortable than protective goggles and do not leave wounds on the face.
It takes about 3 hours to manufacture one protective mask, the adapters for ventilators are made faster. Lviv City Council has already made the first order to make them start working for the benefit of city medicine as soon as possible.
– We have already spoken with the chief doctor of Lviv Emergency Hospital and have already ordered 20 such adapters. We still have to decide on the number of masks. We are also discussing purchase with the heads of supermarket chains and pharmacies whose employees communicate with people a lot,» said Andrii Moskalenko, Deputy Mayor for Development.
