A memorandum of cooperation has recently been signed between Lviv Polytechnic National University and Skloresurs – a Ukrainian company specialising in the production and processing of glass products. From now on, Lviv Polytechnic will be able to provide professional advice to the company’s employees and promote the effective implementation of innovative technologies in production.
The prerequisite for the cooperation was the participation of Skloresurs LLC employees in the conference «Fire resistant glass systems in fire protection of buildings» in November 2023. At that time, the company focused on the study of modern standards for fire resistant translucent structures, considering the practical aspects of their production. Thanks to the introduction of the latest technologies, Skloresurs will be able to effectively respond to the challenges of war – from creating reliable facade glass and insulated glass units to protect buildings to developing safety glass. This was the impetus for the search for Ukrainian innovators to support domestic developments and provide an additional level of security for Ukrainians and critical infrastructure.
In April 2024, the University’s official website published a popular science article «Lviv Polytechnic developed a technology for the production of a hydrogel composition for insulating fire resistant glass». It prompted Skloresurs to contact the technology developer, Serhii Vaкvarenko, Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies, for more information. Lviv Polytechnic began working on this development as part of the project «Development of hydrogel composition for insulating fire resistant glass and its manufacturing technology» which received financial support from the National Research Foundation of Ukraine.
After the preliminary discussions, the next step was a personal meeting, during which Oleksandr Kirichuk, CEO, and Roman Yarotskyi, Technical Director, Skloresurs, shared their 17 years of experience in architectural and internal glazing with representatives of Lviv Polytechnic. They also spoke about the peculiarities of using modern technologies in domestic production in the context of the war which make it possible to create products that meet all international quality standards.
The meeting resulted in signing a memorandum that provides for
- assistance in conducting independent examinations and testing goods and services, depending on the purpose which requires the application of special knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as the use of certain material and technical facilities;
- mutual visits, business meetings of the parties’ representatives to learn and share the work experience;
- promotion of activities, professional advice, participation in joint projects, etc.
Cooperation with Ukrainian leaders in glass and equipment production and their interest in the innovative developments of Lviv Polytechnic will undoubtedly contribute to the commercialisation of the proposed technology for the manufacture of a unique hydrogel composition for fire-resistant glass units and accelerate the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war. In such difficult conditions, business and innovators join forces and work together to support Ukrainian producers for the sake of the Victory and the general welfare of every Ukrainian.
