The team of the Indicator Packaging project from Lviv Polytechnic National University is working on creating a special sticker that will help visually assess the freshness of the product without violating the integrity of the packaging. To do this, researchers select a health and safety indicator and look for the best way to fit it into the package.
How will this happen? Products spoilage cause at first the formation of acidic and then alkaline environment. This sticker with the indicator will determine the product environment, and will inform about it by changing its colour.
Why is this necessary? You cannot open yogurts, packages of cheese or, for example, meat in the store to find out if they are fresh. Unfortunately, even the expiration date indicated on the package do not guarantee the real freshness of the product in case of non-compliance with storage conditions.
Therefore, this solution will allow you to quickly and easily assess the real freshness of products.
Given the fact that there is no such development in Ukraine today, and its relevance is really high, the idea is great! CIG R&D LAB educational and scholarship program wishes developers to implement it!
