The International Trade Fair «EuroBuildExpo 2024» was held in Kyiv from October 15 to 17 2024. The event brought together specialists from all sectors of the construction industry and related industries: architects, urban planners, investors, employees of construction and utility companies, representatives of central authorities, regional and district state administrations, local government, public and private enterprises, international organizations and foundations.
For Lviv Polytechnicians, participation in the event was an opportunity to demonstrate its own development, a unique hydrogel composition for fire resistant glass, to representatives of the Ukrainian construction market, analyze the competitiveness of its products, find new partners, reach commercial agreements, and learn about the latest achievements of modern construction technologies.
The team’s development, led by Professor Serhii Varvarenko, the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies, is aimed at improving the level of protection of people and property during emergencies, including fires of various kinds. The relevance and expansion of the use of fire glass with a hydrogel composition meets the current challenges faced by Ukrainians during the war and the further needs of the country’s post-war reconstruction. The advantages of its use are clear: it is made in Ukraine, meets fire safety standards in Ukraine and worldwide, has an attractive price compared to analogues, and is endowed with a wide range of products and the ability to respond to individual customer requests.
According to the developers, the technology for manufacturing hydrogel compositions for fire-resistant glass is relatively simple and involves minimal logistical risks. All the components of the composition are available in Ukraine at an affordable price and can be manufactured by workers without special skills, subject to preliminary training. These features make it possible to implement the presented technology at any domestic glass production facility.
During the exhibition, domestic glass manufacturers and members of the Association of Window and Facade Market Participants got acquainted with samples of fire-resistant glass presented by Lviv Polytechnic Professor Serhii Varvarenko and Associate Professor Semen Khomiak, learned about the specifics of manufacturing a hydrogel composition and filling a double-glazed window with it, reviewed the results of tests of these double-glazed windows and their foreign analogues for heat resistance, and received recommendations for the practical application of the technology proposed by the scientists in production.
The unique hydrogel composition for fire-resistant glass was developed as part of the project «Development of a Hydrogel Composition for Insulating Fire-Resistant Glass and Technology for its Manufacture», which received grant support from the National Research Foundation of Ukraine, and can be manufactured at Lviv Polytechnic.
Participation in the exhibition was made possible by the financial, informational, and marketing support of Lviv Polytechnic’s R&D Department team, in particular Roman Nebesnyi and Olena Lukachuk.
