A meeting at the Department of Applied Linguistics was held between the faculty of the universities of Helsinki and Lviv

On December 2, 2022, an online meeting between the professors and teaching staff of the universities of Helsinki (Finland) and Lviv (Ukraine) was held as part of the exchange of academic experience.

The seminar, held at the Department of Applied Linguistics, the Institute of Computer Sciences and Information Technologies, Lviv Polytechnic, headed by Professor Olena Levchenko, brought together experienced scientists and young researchers. The participants of the event had a pleasant opportunity to talk on the topic of research orientations and research traditions of universities.

  • The seminar was led by Professor Merja Polvinen, lecturer and specialist in English literature, curator of the doctoral program, expert in cognitology and narratology, who outlined the achievements and prospects of the modern field of philology on an interdisciplinary map.
  • Professor Maria Salenius, head of the Department of English Philology and a researcher of John Donne’s works, conducted a tour of the educational program, paying attention to the disciplinary and thematic content of training specialists for the Bachelor’s degree.
  • Professor Heta Pyrhönen, the Department of Comparative Literature, teacher of English literature and guarantor of the educational and scientific program of doctoral students, emphasized the importance of applying theoretical achievements in practical classes with students.
  • Professor Ivan Bekhta, a specialist in discourse narratology and English-language fiction, emphasized the need to introduce macrophilological analysis into modern humanities studies.

Other participants of the seminar: Nataliya Bekhta, Elizabeth Oakes, Esco Suoranta, Nataliya Bondarchuk, Nataliya Hrytsiv, Olena-Anna Gultsyo, Marianna Dilai, Vitaly Karasyov, Oksana Melnychuk, as well as guests Nely Keinänen, Eero Suoranta, Tommi Dunderlin, Jari Käkelä, had an active conversation about the theoretical and methodological developments of modern philological science and a lively discussion in the direction of further opportunities for academic cooperation.
