On October 19, 2023, a meeting with Volodymyr Radovskyi, a researcher of the Cossack movement in Right-Bank Ukraine, a member of the National Writers’ Union of Ukraine and the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, was held in the room 109 (room of Cossack Glory) in the XI academic building, Lviv Polytechnic National University. The students and the teaching staff of the University attended the event. The meeting was initiated and moderated by Roman Kolodii, the head of registered Cossacks of the Lviv Region. Roman Melekh, a member of Shevchenko Scientific Society, made some comments to let attendees dive more deeply into our glorious past. The representatives of the Cossack societies of the Lviv region also attended the meeting. The event began with the anthem of the Cossack Sich, performed by traveling kobzar Borys Babenko.
In his speech, Volodymyr Radovskyi talked about interesting and little-known facts from the life of Hetman Ivan Mazepa and other Hetmans of Ukraine, whose biographies he researched. The distinguished guest paid special attention to the sources which he learned these little-known facts from. They are libraries of Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Poland.
The event was organized to fulfill the Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine «On the celebration of the 375th anniversary of the election of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi as Hetman of Ukraine». Volodymyr Radovskyi has written 5 books about Bohdan Khmelnytskyi’s life. The Cossack Council of the Ukrainian Registered Cossacks decided to award the researcher with the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi. In memory of his visit to Lviv Polytechnic, Mr. Radovskyi presented Scientific and Technical Library with his books about Ukrainian hetmans and a number of first editions. The writer noted that this was his first acquaintance with Lviv Polytechnic.
Volodymyr Radovskyi is the author of 18 books about the Cossacks. Currently, the 87-year-old researcher lives in Karlsruhe, Germany.
