On January 20, 2023, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine held a briefing on the model for admission to higher education institutions in 2023 agreed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Ukraine, the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Education, Science and Innovation, and the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment (UCEQA).
Serhii Shkarlet, the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, People’s Deputy of Ukraine, Serhii Babak, Chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Education, Science and Innovation, People’s Deputy of Ukraine, Yuliia Hryshyna Chairman of the Subcommittee on Higher Education of the Committee on Education, Science and Innovations of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Valerii Boiko, Acting Director of UCEQA, and Oleh Sharov, Director General of the Directorate of Vocational Pre-Higher and Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture, attended the event.
According to Minister Serhii Shkarlet, the national multi-subject test (NMT) will consist of two compulsory subjects (Ukrainian language and mathematics) and one additional subject chosen by the entrant from the list: history of Ukraine, foreign (English, French, German, Spanish) language, physics, chemistry, or biology. Regardless of the additional subject chosen by the entrant, a positive result of the NMT will make it possible to submit an application for admission to any specialty, taking into account the weighting factors established for subjects in different majors.
Acting Director Valerii Boiko, Director of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment, told about the technical peculiarities of the entrance exams in 2023. According to him, the innovation compared to the previous year is that earlier the tasks of the tests in mathematics, history and the Ukrainian language were to choose one correct answer and to match. This year, the platform will be improved and the possibilities for using other task formats, which were specific to the external examination system, will be significantly expanded.
Acting Director of UCEQA emphasized that the entrants will receive the results immediately, as soon as they complete all the tasks in one or another subject. Leaving the room of the temporary examination center, each participant will know his result.
Oleh Sharov, Director General of the Directorate of Vocational Pre-Higher and Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture, said that in the admissions campaign 2023, they do not plan to use the average scores of previously obtained documents on education and the rural coefficient.
Entrants to art and sports majors must additionally complete a creative or sports assignment.
