On May 6, 2021, Simon Pidoux, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine, held a lecture on Swiss-Ukrainian bilateral relations for students majoring in International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies. The event took place as part of the Jean Monnet activities under Erasmus+ project the EU Eastern Partnership Initiative: Opportunities for Ukraine, implemented by the Department of Political Science and International Relations, the Institute of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Lviv Polytechnic.
Project manager, Director of the Institute of the Humanities and Social Sciences, DSc (Political science), prof. Yaryna Turchyn stressed that the Swiss experience is extremely important for the development of modern Ukraine. In particular, the interregional Ukrainian-Swiss cooperation is actively developing, and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation finances a number of projects in Ukraine.
Simon Pidoux spoke about the development of Swiss-Ukrainian bilateral relations, in particular about the ancient historical relations of our country and Switzerland. He drew attention to the recent visit of the President of the Swiss Confederation Simonetta Sommaruga and to her support for our country. It was noted that Switzerland is among the top 5 investors in Ukraine, the Swiss government supports programs implementation in the field of medicine, agriculture and light industry.
Yulia Drapaliuk, a graduate of the Department of Political Science and International Relations, who wrote a thesis on Ukrainian-Swiss cooperation, also took part in the event.
