The discussion club «Skovoroda here and now» took place within the framework of the XVII International School of Ukrainian Studies «Step to Ukraine» on the Zoom platform on July 22.
Anhelina Parashchyna, a literary critic and a junior researcher at the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, Lviv Polytechnic, had a conversation with students about the Ukrainian philosopher Hryhorii Skovoroda. Central to the conversation was the biography and texts of Ukrainian Socrates. The participants discussed how relevant the concept of work, cordocentrism, and the issue of self-knowledge are nowadays. The listeners shared their opinions about what influenced the formation of Skovoroda.
School Students watched and discussed the animated biography of the philosopher, as well as went on a virtual tour of Skovorodynivka. The club members also got acquainted with the fables «The Bee and the Hornet», «The Clockwork Wheels», and tried to deduce the moral of the texts as well as fragments of the dialogue «Narcissus. Talk about: Know yourself» on their own, discussing the problem of self-knowledge.
In the future, the students of the School will have discussion clubs dedicated to Ukrainian traditions, where they will be able to compare the cultural peculiarities of Ukraine and the countries in which they currently live. Ahead there is fruitful learning and learning not only about yourself, but also about Ukraine.
