On October 25, Teresa Ewa Astramowicz-Leyk, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, and Mykola Bevz, Head of the Department of Architecture and Restoration, the Institute of Architecture and Design, were awarded the title of Honorary Professor at Lviv Polytechnic.

The laudator of Teresa Astramowicz-Leyk was Yaryna Turchyn, Director of the Institute of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Lviv Polytechnic National University.
– Ralph Emerson, one of the greatest thinkers of the United States, once said: «Everyone surpasses me in something; and in that sense I have something to learn from him». My professional path brought me together with a person who is multifaceted in her talents and at the same time open to cooperation, exchange of knowledge and experience, to generating joint actions to change our world for the better, – said Yaryna Turchyn.
Teresa Astramowicz-Leyk researches the history of Polish political thought and human rights. Honorary Professor at Lviv Polytechnic is the author of almost a hundred scientific articles, four monographs, ten collective monographs and one dictionary. She is a member of the editorial boards of six scientific publications, including those included in the Scopus database. In her work, the scientist consistently demonstrates her commitment to the principles of the rule of law and the ideals of democratic progress.
Teresa Astramowicz-Leyk belongs to the generation of scientific, cultural and public activists who support cooperation with Ukraine and contribute to the rapprochement of our country to the United Europe, using the tools of scientific diplomacy. First of all, it is about establishing communication and partnership with Lviv Polytechnic National University.
With the assistance of Teresa Astramowicz-Leyk, it was possible to organize almost 20 scientific internships abroad for the faculty of the Institute of the Humanities and Social Sciences (also within Ivan Vyhovsky Award for Eastern European Studies at the University of Warsaw, NAWA), to implement two international scientific grants on the issues of national minorities of Ukraine and Poland with the support of the Ministries of Education and Science of both countries, as well as the Visegrad Fund, and to conduct bilateral academic exchanges within the European Erasmus+ or Visiting Professor programs.

Professor Mykola Bevza was lauded by Bohdan Cherkes, Director of the Institute of Architecture and Design, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Academician of the Academy of Architecture of Ukraine, the German Academy of Urbanism and the Saxon Academy of Arts, Honored Architect of Ukraine.
– Next year it will be 50 years since I was lucky enough to meet one of the most famous scientists, architects and restorers of modern Ukraine – Mykola Bevz. His exceptional scientific and creative talent was obvious already in his student years, and over the years, due to his tireless work, it revealed and manifested new achievements for the benefit of Ukraine, the arts of architecture and restoration and Lviv Polytechnic, – said Bohdan Cherkes.
In recent years under the supervision of Mykola Bevz, research and design developments have been carried out for such historical cities of the western region of Ukraine as – Lviv, Zhovkva, Belz, Buchach, Halych, Pidhaytsi and Ivano-Frankivsk. Due to his work, historical and architectural reserves began to operate in Berezhany, Ternopil region and in Belz, Lviv region. He also scientifically substantiated the opening of historical and architectural reserves for Buchach, Pidhaitsi and the museum-reserve «Field of the Battle of Zboriv» in Zboriv, Ternopil region.
Mykola Bevz is the author of three monographs and more than 250 scientific publications on the preservation, research and restoration of the architectural and urban heritage of Ukraine. He has published 15 scientific collections on the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage sites; organized more than 20 international scientific conferences, including 12 annual scientific conferences on Current Issue in Research, Conservation and Restoration of Historic Fortifications. He created almost 50 urban planning and architectural projects in Lviv and Western Ukraine, including regeneration of buildings in the center of Zhovkva, the museum-memorial complex of Patriarch Yosyp Slipyi in the village of Zazdrist, Ternopil region (in 1998 the Ministry of Construction and Regional Development recognized this complex as the best architectural realization of the year in Ukraine), the general plan of the reserve in Belz and the protected area in Zhovkva, the project of conservation and museification of the foundations of the Assumption Cathedral in the village of Krylos, historical and architectural planning of Uhnev, Zhydachiv and Chervonohrad (Khrystynopil), Lviv region, and Bolekhiv, Ivano-Frankivsk region.
