Lviv Polytechnic hosted an international scientific conference dedicated to the development of polymer technologies, where innovations that can strengthen Ukraine’s defense and help restore the country after the war.
The Conference on Advanced Polymer Materials and Technologies was organized by the Department of Chemical Technology of Plastics Processing, the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies (ICCT). The event brought together scientists from different regions of Ukraine, including representatives of Lviv Polytechnic National University, Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies in Dnipro, and Kyiv National University of Technology and Design.
Like other events at Lviv Polytechnic, the conference began with a minute of silence to honour the memory of the fallen soldiers in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Despite the war conditions and restrictions on international participation, the event was held at a high scientific level.
– The Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies always responds promptly to the urgent needs of society, and this is exemplified by numerous projects, including the development of hydrogel dressings, which will be presented today and have already been brought to the production stage. Unfortunately, many people are now suffering from injuries, so clinics and hospitals are addressing us. The field of modern polymer technologies, biotechnology and biopolymers is in great demand now. I would like to emphasize that ICCT is not only a theoretical base, but also actively teaches applied chemistry, which is confirmed by such important projects. This is what gives us confidence that the Institute will continue to develop, and such conferences will be an impetus for further development, said Professor Nataliya Chukhray, Doctor of Economics, Vice-Rector for Education and International Relations.
– Today it is the fifth conference. I am pleased to see representatives not only from our university but also from other universities in Ukraine. I am well acquainted with many areas of cooperation, and I am pleased that this conference is becoming increasingly important. On the one hand, it is related to military topics, where we, as scientists, can make our contribution. In particular, we are talking about polymers for medical purposes, which are being actively developed at Lviv Polytechnic at the Department of Organic Chemistry, ICCT. Therefore, the Research and Development Department strongly supports these areas, said Roman Nebesnyi, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Senior Researcher, Head of the Research and Development Department.
Bringing together experts from different parts of Ukraine to discuss innovative solutions in the field of polymer technology is crucial for the country’s defense, providing assistance in both the military and medical fields. Viktoria Plavan, representative of the Kyiv National University of Technology and Design, emphasized:
– The expression «East and West are together» has recently gained popularity, and this conference is a confirmation that East and West are indeed uniting. Together, we are forming young professionals and working together to win.
At the end of the conference, the participants honoured the memory of the fallen Sich Riflemen on Mount Makivka.
